Anchor lead: Nicotine solutions for filling e-cigarettes are dangerous, Elizabeth Tracey reports

The FDA is poised to weigh in on warning labeling for e-cigarette refill solutions, and not a moment too soon for small children.  Enid Neptune, a lung expert at Johns Hopkins and tobacco control advocate, describes the problem.

Neptune: The problem with e-cigarette solutions, they’re being labeled as regular solutions and because they’re flavored they often have labels that depict the flavoring, such as grape, such as cherry, such as bubble gum, and to children these look like soft drinks. E-cigarette solution exposures to young kids are toxic, and they can be lethal.  Clearly we want to protect children.  :26

The number of nicotine poisonings has spiked nationally since e-cigarettes have become popular so a label change is sorely needed.  Neptune says the FDA is also expected to unveil additional regulations regarding the devices soon.  At Johns Hopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
