Tossing and turning in the middle of the night? Trying to get comfortable can be frustrating when you wake up and can’t get back to sleep. If you’re a woman going through hormone changes associated with menopause, make up your bed with layers of covers rather than one big blanket to help you adjust the warmth of your nest easily. A fan plugged in nearby can ease hot flashes and night sweats. Johns Hopkins sleep expert Luis Buenaver says to sleep better through the night, you can start by keeping your bedroom dark, quiet and cool, and emptying your bladder before climbing into bed. If you’re living with a chronic health problem, work with your doctor to control discomfort that affects a good night’s sleep. For more details, check out Up in the Middle of the Night? How to Get Back to Sleep.
