Menopause is complicated for many women, and this requires a team of experts for the range of issues someone may experience. That’s according to Wen Shen, a menopause expert at Johns Hopkins, who says mental health issues and cardiovascular and bone health are just a few of the concerns women describe.
Shen: Another thing that I often hear is I’ve gained ten pounds every year for the past five years. This has got to stop. I follow a very strick diet, I exercise five days a week, and I have not been able to lose weight. :17
Shen says what’s really needed to understand menopause is robust, long term research.
Shen: Health and medical issues for women as we age is very different from men, and the research has traditionally all been done on men. :09
Shen urges women to look providers with a special interest in this time of life for women. At Johns Hopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
