Which type of vitamin is best? Your pharmacist knows, Elizabeth Tracey reports

Do you take vitamins? While the evidence is conflicting on whether they are beneficial for health the majority of US adults do take them, and frequently are confused over which ones are best. Pharmacist Victoria DeJaco at Johns Hopkins says there’s one  certification you can look for.

Dejaco: You've been asking about vitamins which vitamin is the best. If it has this USP label on it, USP is a different type of certification. The FDA does not regulate vitamins which is what makes things a little blurrier. If you have that certification USP is basically saying that what is on the labels actually what's in it. That's going to be more preferable but if you can't find that then there's also known brands, I would stick with brands that you know.   :28

USP stands for United States Pharmacopeia, and it independently certifies quality as well as quantity of ingredients in vitamins and some supplements sold in the US. At Johns Hopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
