If you’re sending a child off to college what vaccines should they get? Elizabeth Tracey reports

Being up to date on vaccines should be on the college prep list, says pharmacist Victoria DeJaco at Johns Hopkins.

Dejaco: Definitely gonna want COVID or flu because those generally are going to be more prevalent. The season is going to start in October. I'd say we have a new vaccine that should be out for the next year but what I would recommend is that everyone who hasn't gotten boosted in the past like four months, I'd recommend that they get a vaccine. I don't think hepatitis B is really necessary but if you have someone who is working in the healthcare field hep B is something that I would also consider. There's other just routine vaccinations like TDAP.  :30

College bound folks should also consider vaccines for meningitis, and in light of ongoing measles outbreaks nationally finding out whether you are immune is a good idea. If you’re not a booster is called for. And finally, DeJaco notes, if you haven’t had the HPV vaccines she urges getting caught up now. At Johns Hopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
