Breathlessness clinic is a new approach at Johns Hopkins to assist people with chronic lung diseases to live their best lives with these often debilitating conditions. Anna Gersten, a lung expert and director of the clinic, explains who would benefit.
Gersten: All types of advanced lung disease, anyone with COPD or other types of obstructive lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, CF. One of the really cool things is we have an ongoing initiative with the lung transplant team so anyone who starts a work up for transplant will get a referral to breathlessness clinic. It's meant to help support people and help plan for the future if transplant is or is not an option. :31
Gersten says the clinic screens people for conditions like depression and anxiety as well as managing their disease and helps them plan for future needs also. At Johns Hopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
