ANCHOR LEAD: CAN AN IPAD APP CONNECT PHYSICIANS IN THE HOSPITAL? ELIZABETH TRACEY REPORTS

Trying to get busy physicians together for a consult, particularly when it involves discussion of complex results from imaging such as CT or MRI, is a tall order indeed. Now an iPad app developed by Paul Nagy and colleagues at Johns Hopkins is doing just that.
NAGY: It’s very complex information and you’re trying to present it in a certain way to be able to show different complexities and what we’ve done is have an iPad app where a physician can contact a radiologist, then can then have a video conversation with a shared session around the patient, around the images of the patient and they navigate it just as if they were sitting side by side. They get to see each other’s video, they get to see the other person, they get to talk to them, but I think the fun of it is they are actually sharing the medical record and the visualization of the medical record together. :28

Nagy says everyone wins with the app because it enables physicians to discuss results more readily, so patients get a diagnosis and treatment plan with greater dispatch. At JohnsHopkins, I’m Elizabeth Tracey.
